Under 8s 2005 / 2006

Gt Harwood Rovers Under 8’s drew 1-1 against Barrowford Celtic Orange on Tuesday 2nd May to remain top of the North Valley Under 8’s Red League. In a very tightly contested first half GHR Oliver Cruse hit the wood work on two occasions on the counter attack with Barrowford very much in control of the game. After the restart Barrowford scored after three minutes with a goal scored on the counter attack. Gt Harwood responded well in their search for an equaliser, a flowing move involving Joss Boothman who passed down the line to Oliver Cruse who crossed for MOM George Ramsbottom to finish in style. Harwood continued to press for a winner with Dominic Shephard coming close and Kyle Bentham being denied by a goal line clearance in the dying moments. Great Harwood Rovers Under 8’s must now wait and see if they are to go into a play off for the title with Ighten Leigh in the coming weeks.

Sunday 9th April - Great Harwood Rovers Under 8’s v Brierfield Celtic. Great Harwood scored two second half goals to go back to the top of the North Valley Under 8 red league table with only one league match remaining. George Ramsbottom and Man of The Match Oliver Cruse scoring the goals. The score line did not reflect the possession and chances that GHR created with Brierfield Celtic’s goal keeper making a number of excellent saves.

Sunday 26th March - Gt Harwood Rovers Under 8’s drew against Ighten Leigh under 8’s in a very tightly fought match. GHR went behind after only five minutes with a scrappy goal from a corner. Gt Harwood then held on to go in one down at half time with Matty Bunn making some excellent saves. An inspired substitution changed the game when GHR brought on George Ramsbottom he immediately picked up the ball and played a great pass to Oliver Cruse who finished in style. GHR then went for the win with Ighten Leigh reliant on breakaway efforts. Another very good game played in good spirit, which ended in a 1-1 draw. Man of The Match Oliver Cruse.

Gt Harwood Rovers Under 8’s gained another victory against Fulledge in the North Valley League Red on Sunday 19th March. In a tightly fought first half GHR took the lead with a good goal from Kyle Parker only to see Fulledge score from a free kick to equalise and send the teams in at half time all square. The second half started with GHR putting the pressure on the Fulledge goal and eventually Oliver cruse put the away team in the lead with a well taken goal. Man of The Match George Ramsbottom then scored from an excellently taken free kick to make it 3-1 with Oliver Cruse wrapping up the scoring to make the final score 4-1.

Gt Harwood Rovers Under 8’s suffered only their second defeat in the league a 1-0 reverse against Barrowford Celtic Orange on Saturday 18th March. In a very tightly contested game Barrowford scored with two minutes to go on the counter attack. Gt Harwood had just seen an excellent double save by the Barrowford keeper when they struck their goal. George Ramsbottom saw his free kick well saved then Liam Griffin hit a goal bound shot which again the keeper clutched out of the sky. He then took a quick kick and their striker hit a good shot over the advancing Mathew Bunn in the nets. A very good game played in very windy conditions ended with Gt Harwood Rovers 12 match unbeaten run coming to an end. Man of The Match Sam Allen.

Great Harwood Rovers Under 8’s v Barnoldswick Barons Blue Feb 12th 2006. Great Harwood dominated throughout and deserved their 7-1 victory. On a pitch the size of a postage stamp the under 8’s found it hard to get their passing game going. Man of The Match George Ramsbottom scored five, Oliver Cruse one and one for Kyle Bentham. Only after scoring three in three minutes did the team start playing to their full potential. A deflected shot pulled one back for the Barons. The under 8’s have now won their last ten games in a row to remain top of the league.

Great Harwood Rovers Under 8’s v Brierfield Celtic Blue.......Great Harwood continued their good form with their 9th consecutive victory to go 4 points clear at the top of the table. They defeated Briefield Celtic Blue 8-0 on Sunday 29th January. Oliver Cruse 3, George Ramsbottom 2, Ethan Thompson 1, Joss Boothman 1 and Kyle Bentham 1 scored the goals. A game that Gt Harwood dominated and if not for a good second half performance by Brierfields goalkeeper the score could and should have been in double figures. Man Of The Match George Ramsbottom.

Gt Harwood Rovers Under 8’s recorded another hard earned victory against Colne in the North Valley League Red on Sunday 22nd January to put them top of the League.A much improved Colne gave Gt Harwood one of their toughest tests of the season. With goal keeper Mathew Bunn keeping Gt Harwood in the game with four excellent saves. Two goals by leading scorer Oliver Cruse and one from Joss Boothman gave Harwood a 3-0 half time lead. Kyle Bentham rounded the scoring off with the fourth in the second half. George Ramsbottom was awarded Gt Harwood’s man of the match.

Gt Harwood Rovers Under 8’s cruised to a great victory against their nearest rivals Pendle Forest White in the North Valley League Red on Sunday 15th January. After a tightly fought first half with both goalies making good saves, the teams went in 0-0 at half time. The second half was a tight affair when the excellent Sam Allen played a good ball down the line to Oliver Cruse who went round the last defender and the goal keeper to square the ball for Kyle Bentham to tap in. The second came again on the counter attack as Dominic Sheppard won the ball passed it up the line to Oliver Cruse who delivered a perfect cross to Bentham to net his second. The Gt Harwood pressure persisted and Bentham and Cruse combined again with Cruse hitting an unstoppable shot into the bottom corner. George Ramsbottom was awarded Gt Harwood’s man of the match.

Gt Harwood Rovers Under 8’s pulled off a dramatic last minute win in the North Valley League Red on Sunday 11th December.
Two goals in the last minute from Oliver Cruse helped Gt Harwood Rovers to a hard fought 2-1 victory. A first half goal scored from a free kick by Pendle Forest put them in a deserved 1-0 lead in the first half. Great Harwood Rovers under 8’s picked up the tempo in the second half pushed on by George Ramsbottom, but it looked as though GHR would not get back into the match as chances were missed. Then Oliver Cruse did what he does best Spinning the defender and finishing in style with his right foot in the last minute of normal time. Mathew Bunn cleared a shot off his line and that released Kyle Bentham who played a good pass through to Cruse who calmly finished putting GHR 2 -1 up in time added on. George Ramsbottom was awarded Gt Harwood’s man of the match.

Gt Harwood Rovers Under 8’s recorded another win in the North Valley League Red on Sunday 4th December.
A third hatrick in a row from Oliver Cruse helped Gt Harwood Rovers to a well deserved 6-0 victory. In Muddy conditions the under 8’s dug in with two goals from George Ramsbottom directly from corners and a goal from cruse that put Gt Harwood into a 3-0 lead at half time. The Gt Harwood pressure persisted and Oliver Cruse hit two more in the second half and a brilliant individual goal from Kyle Parker completed the scoring. Sam Allen was awarded Gt Harwood’s man of the match.

Gt Harwood Rovers Under 8’s recorded their second victory of the season in the North Valley League Red on Sunday 16th October.
After being 2-0 down at half time against top of the table Ighten Leigh the under 8’s showed great character and recorded a deserved 3-2 win. The first half started badly playing up hill and against the wind Ighten Leigh were gifted two easy goals due to hesitation in the Great Harwood’s defence. In the second half however the under 8’s dug in and a brilliant long distance effort from George Ramsbottom flew into the top corner. The Gt Harwood pressure persisted and Oliver Cruse hit another unstoppable shot into the bottom corner. With only minutes remaining G Ramsbottom went passed two players and hit a hopeful goal bound shot the Ighten Leigh keeper could only parry into his own net. Joss Boothman was awarded Gt Harwood’s man of the match.  

Great Harwood Rovers Under 8’s v Rishton Utd Red
Great Harwood scored early in the match with two goals from George Ramsbottom. That was followed by a first half hatrick from the excellent Oliver Cruse and another goal for the club by Liam Griffin. Half time 6-0. The second half carried on in the same vain George Ramsbottom scored to make it 7 to complete his hatrick. Kyle Bentham came on and scored a brace and G Ramsbottom completed the scoring with his fourth goal of the game. Final score 10-0. Man Of The Match Ethan Thompson.

Great Harwood scored straight from the kick off with a goal from George Ramsbottom. That was followed by a first half hatrick from Oliver Cruse and a first goal for the club by Liam Griffin. Half time 5-0. The second half carried on in the same vain with a cool finish from Liam Griffin for his second of the game. George Ramsbottom scored to make it 7 then rounded it off with a brilliant individual goal going round four men before coolly slotting home to complete his hatrick. Final score 8-0.
